TO THE MEN WHO’S HEARTS I’VE BROKEN

I am sorry I made you suffer
I was myself unknowingly suffering
I am sorry I lead you on
I was too lost myself to know the truth
I am sorry I did not love you
I did not know what true love meant
I am sorry I woke you up with my late phone call
I was too much of a sheep to admit to my loneliness
I am sorry I did not leave earlier
I could not stand facing myself when the sun went down
I am sorry I broke my heart
For mine always came after I broke yours
And in this messiness called life
Sometimes we destroy others and us along the way
But we get up
A little wiser, a little stronger, a little more committed to ourselves
We get up
Learning that the only way to love wholly is to love ourselves
And so the work begins
And less hearts are broken
